Sliding Rheostat
The main technical specifications of the sliding rheostat are total resistance and rated current (power). In particular, it should be noted that the current passing through any part of the rheostat must not exceed its rated current.
In the laboratory, it is often used to change the current or voltage in a circuit, connected respectively as a current-limiting circuit and a voltage-dividing circuit. When in use, attention should be paid: before turning on the power, in the current-limiting circuit, the sliding contact T should be placed at the position of maximum resistance (end N); in the voltage-dividing circuit, the sliding contact T should be placed at the position of minimum resistance (end N).
